Legenda o Słonym Jeziorze w Larnace

Dawno temu, zanim miejsce to stało się słonym jeziorem, w okolicy rozciągały się żyzne pola i zielone pastwiska. Mieszkała tam kobieta, która pewnego gorącego dnia pracowała na roli. Wędrowiec — zmęczony, spragniony i głodny — podszedł do niej i poprosił o trochę winogron lub wody. Kobieta jednak była znana z twardego serca. Zamiast podzielić się tym, co miała, odprawiła wędrowca ze słowami:

„Nie mam nic — nawet winogrona są solą!”

Współcześnie Słone Jezioro w Larnace jest domem dla wielu gatunków ptaków, w tym flamingów, i stało się symbolem piękna oraz tajemnicy. Tuż obok jeziora stoi Hala Sultan Tekke, jedno z najświętszych miejsc islamu, co tylko dodaje miejscu duchowego wymiaru.

The Legend of the Salt Lake of Larnaca

Long ago, before this place became a salt lake, the area was full of fertile fields and green pastures. There lived a woman who was working the land one hot day. A traveler, tired, thirsty and hungry, approached her and asked for some grapes or water. However, the woman was known for her hard heart. Instead of sharing what she had, she sent the traveler away with the words:

“I have nothing – even grapes are salt!”

The traveler, as it turned out, was a messenger of God or – according to another version – a saint himself. Outraged by her lies and selfishness, he cursed the land. In an instant, the entire area was covered with a white crust of salt, and the fertile land turned into a barren, salty lake.

Since then, this place has never produced crops again, and the lake only fills with water seasonally. The legend was meant to be a warning about the consequences of greed and lack of compassion.

Today, Larnaca Salt Lake is home to many species of birds, including flamingos, and has become a symbol of beauty and mystery. Right next to the lake is the Hala Sultan Tekke, one of the holiest sites in Islam, which only adds to the spiritual dimension of the place.
